Technical Tools for Boundary Layers and Applications to Heterogeneous Coefficients

چکیده
We consider traces and discrete harmonic extensions on thin boundary layers. We introduce sharp estimates on how to control the H − or H 00 − boundary norm of a finite element function by its energy in a thin layer and vice versa, how to control the energy of a discrete harmonic function in a layer by the H 1/2 or H 00 norm on the boundary. Such results play an important role in the analysis of domain decomposition methods in the presence of high-contrast media inclusions, small overlap and/or inexact solvers.

Normal forms of Hopf Singularities: Focus Values Along with some Applications in Physics
This paper aims to introduce the original ideas of normal form theory and bifurcation analysis and control of small amplitude limit cycles in a non-technical terms so that it would be comprehensible to wide ranges of Persian speaking engineers and physicists. The history of normal form goes back to more than one hundreds ago, that is to the original ideas coming from Henry Poincare. This tool p...
متن کاملSite Selection of Establishment of Small Earth Dams in semi Arid and semi Arid Zones by Spatial Multi-Criteria Evaluation (SMCE) (Case Study: Yoosef-abad Watershed)
Earth dams have been used widely recently in flood and sedimentation control projects and feeding ground waters in country's watersheds and correct locating for such structures is necessary for increasing their efficiency. In this work, it is attempted to determine the correct locations for constricting earth dams in Yoosef-abad watershed in Tabas using v and incorporating information layers. T...
متن کاملChebyshev finite difference method for a two−point boundary value problems with applications to chemical reactor theory
In this paper, a Chebyshev finite difference method has been proposed in order to solve nonlinear two-point boundary value problems for second order nonlinear differential equations. A problem arising from chemical reactor theory is then considered. The approach consists of reducing the problem to a set of algebraic equations. This method can be regarded as a non-uniform finite difference schem...
متن کاملGlow Discharge Depth Profiling a Powerful Analytical Technique in Surface Engineering (TECHNICAL NOTE)
A variety of analytical techniques have been developed and employed to characterize the surfaces, subsurfaces and interfaces of surface engineering systems. They provide important information for quality control, process optimization and further development. Since the mid 1980's, glow discharge spectrometry (GDS) has emerged as an important and versatile technique for rapid depth profiling anal...
متن کاملDetecting the location of the boundary layers in singular perturbation problems with general linear non-local boundary conditions
Singular perturbation problems have been studied by many mathematicians. Since the approximate solutions of these problems are as the sum of internal solution (boundary layer area) and external ones, the formation or non-formation of boundary layers should be specified. This paper, investigates this issue for a singular perturbation problem including a first order differential equation with gen...
